Our signature product—the yoga pant—is crafted from a custom cotton blend that includes innovative textiles like banana cotton, eucalyptus fiber, and orange peel yarn. We’re proud to premiere a newly invented vegan elastic, designed to gently biodegrade over a lifespan of 10–12 years. This elastic offers the perfect amount of stretch for movement while embracing the idea that nothing should last forever—not even clothes. This philosophy is part of our mission to reduce microplastic pollution in our oceans, ecosystems, and even in our own bodies.
A growing concern
In recent years, the prevalence of plastic in clothing has become a significant concern. According to various studies, approximately 60% of all clothing produced today contains synthetic fibers, primarily polyester, nylon, and acrylic, which are derived from petroleum-based sources.
Statistics
An alarming statistic estimates that half a million tons of microfibers are released into the ocean annually from washing clothes. These microplastics are small enough to evade wastewater treatment plants, leading to environmental pollution and potential harm to marine life.
Health risks
Similar to asbestos or fine particulate pollution, microplastics cause an inflammatory responses in the body; cellular stress, oxidative damage, and disrupt normal cell functions.
Microplastics act like sponges, absorbing: pesticides, heavy metals, plastic additives (like BPA, phthalates), etc. Once inside the body, they release these toxins, which are linked to hormonal disruption, reproductive issues, neurotoxicity, cancer, etc.
